Belmont Springs is a commercial site at a warm-water springs. This toasty-warm pond is just south of the town of Plymouth; north of Tremonton on U-81. There is a swimming pool and golf course nearby. You must make reservations, and you must pay to enter. The water: Temperature is around 92 degrees F, and has a slight sulfur smell. Depth extends to 30 feet, with a rolling bottom, but much of the 2-acre pond is around 5 feet in depth. Visibility reported to be fair, unless multiple divers are present -- in which case it rapidly decreases to a couple of feet. The Springs are used by dive shops in Idaho and Logan, and the water quickly becomes murk on days when large groups of beginning divers are using the pond. What to see: Golf balls from the nearby golf course, small warm-water fish, and some crayfishFacilities: There are rest rooms and a hot tub. There?s a small dock, an entry ladder, and two platforms for scuba instruction at around 20 feet of depth.Reservations are required! Phone 435-458-3200. Fee is $15 per diver. Scuba diving is scheduled October through May, as the water becomes hot during the summer.Exposure: Swim trunks only. This is a toasty warm dive.Getting there: Head north on I-15. Go through Tremonton and keep right as the freeway splits, continuing on I-15. About 10 miles later, exit at the "Plymouth" exit. Turn right (east) and go a half-mile, then turn right on U-81, which heads back south. In a couple of miles, watch for a large billboard on the right: "Belmont Springs Golf Course". Turn right and follow the road to the site.
